My little preemie friend, Paul.

My second official photo shoot was of a special little man named Paul. I had the privilege of being one of this little guy's primary nurses in the NICU at Rush Copley. He was born 3 months premature, and look at him now! He's totally healthy & happy! This is absolutely one of the best parts of my job - getting to see what the little 1-2 pounders look like 6 months later. Thanks to his mom Carrie for letting me use his photos! Once again, I had SO much fun doing this. I can't wait to do more!

Brooklyn & the Windy City

My first official photo shoot - Brooklyn Eve - 3/31/2010.

This pretty little girl was born with the world's craziest hair...and we picked a very windy day for her photos...a perfect combination! I had an absolute blast doing this. I had to do a lot of retouching to the last 2 photos because there were power lines in the sky behind Brooklyn's head. I'm pretty sure they turned out fine! Another thing, Brooklyn really doesn't know me all that well...so I was a little nervous. However, I think her pictures turned out great and hardly reflected that at all! Let me know what you think!

Why am I doing this?

I started this blog with the hope of refining and renewing my long lost interest in the arts. I grew up loving art. I remember I loved to draw back in grade school and high school. I have one particular memory of my 1st grade teacher calling me an "artEEst"!

For as long as I can remember I have also loved taking pictures. Then, in 2007, tragedy struck our family as I lost my 2nd son Shane at birth. However, inspiration also found its way in... A volunteer photographer came to the hospital when Shane was born. She was from an organization called "Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep". She took pictures for us when Shane was born, as we held him and bonded with him, and as we said our final goodbyes to him. The photos she took are the only visual memories we now have of Shane. They are beautiful, beyond description. She not only gave us all the images, she gave us a slideshow, framed photos that she took, and brought all of these things to our home for us just days after we went home without him.

My Goal

Having this experience inspired me, and brought a new sense of purpose into my life. While I love taking pictures of anyone and anything, my ultimate goal is to become a volunteer photographer for this organization, so I can do for other people what our photographer Sue did for us.
